Intervention Delivered By Nurses Can Help Combat Depression In Cancer Patients

The patients were on average 56.6 years, and 71 % were women.

The sessions aimed to help patients to understand depression and its treatments, including antidepressants, and provided problem solving strategies to help patients overcome feelings of impuissance. Depression levels were mensurable using the self-reported Symptom Checklist-20 economic crisis scale (range 0 to 4), and also by interview at three, hexad, and 12 months for both groups. Wyclef launches new initiative to help Haiti
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Haitian-born hip-hop star Wyclef Jean launched a new initiative to help his impoverished homeland on Tuesday following last month's deadly food riots.
The initiative is aimed at raising $48 million over the next six months to fund expanded food distribution, job creation and assistance for farmers in the poorest country in the Americas.
Dubbed "Together For Haiti" it is backed by the World Food Program, the Pan American Development Foundation and Yele Haiti, Jean's charitable foundation for Haiti.
"We have come together to launch this new initiative because I believe we can do more and better for Haiti when we act together," Jean told a Manhattan news conference.
"We are not only interested in feeding people in response to the current crisis, but we want to offer them an alternative that can help them in a sustainable way," he said.
"Together For Haiti" plans to employ 1,800 people a day in poor areas, distribute food to 1.5 million people and provide fertilizers to 55,000 farmers. Grants will also be given to 9,000 families to support the development of micro-enterprises.
"We want to give them the opportunity to set up a small business which they can live on instead of assisting them every time there is a crisis," Jean told Reuters.
He was accompanied at the news conference by aid officials and by fellow musician and social activist Paul Simon, who promised support.

Thurman Countersues Lancome
Actress Uma Thurman is countersuing French cosmetics giant Lancome over the use of her face and name in their advertisements. The Be Cool star alleges Lancome boosting its "prestige, stature and bargaining power" by using her image on Asian websites and Canadian billboards after her contract had expired in September 2004. Her move is in response to the firm taking legal action on Wednesday , filing legal papers denying breach of contract and asking the judge to dismiss Thurman's original claim for $1 million. The number does not guarantee entry to the festival at Worthy Farm in Pilton, however fans will not be able to buy a ticket without one.
They have until Friday 14 March to register their interest via the festival's website. Tickets will then go on sale on Sunday 6 April.
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has confirmed legendary US crooner Neil Diamond will play the Sunday headline slot.
Eavis also said this year's Saturday headliner was a hip-hop "legend" from New York, but wouldn't confirm or deny if it was platinum-selling recording artist Jay-Z.
He said: "We're trying to get youngsters to the festival this year. Hopefully the headliner will appeal to them. Traditionally we've had a very white line-up and I'm moving away from that."
